HOW MOVIES ARE CHOSEN
Our staff and executive director make most of the decisions on film selection and work with a local booker well experienced on art house programming to select films. The staff watch film trends and other art house theaters very closely. Leadership attends film festivals, takes suggestions, and keeps up with the latest trends in cinema to serve the Grand community. We partner with local individuals and organizations, and rent out the theater at discounted rates to local filmmakers to support community screenings. We also open the cinema to the public at large in connection with screenings representative of the community through our Reflections program.
CONTENT POLICY
The Grand Cinema and Tacoma Film Festival are dedicated to providing access to film art that is typically not found at mainstream cinemas. Although most of our films do appeal to a wide audience, we often play works with content that, depending on personal preferences and life experience, one may find objectionable, offensive, shocking, or distressing. We are sensitive to the fact that some subject matter in a film may not be for every audience, and that some may find specific content distressing. However, we are cautious to create specific warnings beyond the standard MPAA rating for a particular film for a number of reasons:

-Selecting objectionable or distressing events could be inaccurate or incomplete
-We cannot review every moment of a film before screening
-The industry standard is to rely on MPAA ratings

IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT CONTENT, PLEASE RESEARCH A FILM BEFORE ATTENDING

The Grand refers filmgoers to the MPAA's resources for film ratings - information on most releases is found here: mpaa.org/film-ratings and here: filmratings.com. There are also many online resources that list extensive content warnings for a particular film. We do not recommend or advocate for any particular site, but there are many available to assist you.

Thank you for your continued support. For questions about this policy, contact us at info@grandcinema.com.
