Open Caption Days
In order to best serve our patrons who are d/Deaf, hard of hearing, speak English as a second language, or prefer viewing with captions, we present our films with open captioning on Wednesdays & Sundays. We include this service on as many films and on every screening that we can so patrons can enjoy a captioned film without extra equipment.

What is Open Captioning?
Open captioning is a text display of words and sounds heard during an event. The display is positioned in such a way that it is open for anyone to see in all four of our theaters. It is considered passive assistance, a service that is there to use or ignore.

Who is it for?
Open captioning is a service provided for people with hearing disabilities who use assistive listening devices, hearing aids, cochlear implants, sign language and lip reading. About 10-15% of the population is hard of hearing or d/Deaf. Hearing loss is not the only reason why people use captions; in fact, the majority of people who use closed captions at home aren't hearing impaired.

We understand that captioning can be distracting for those who do not use it, but we are committed to making The Grand Cinema a welcoming community space for everyone. If you do not use the captions, we appreciate your consideration for those who do.

Devices We Offer for Visual & Hearing Assistance

Devices

Headsets
We provide wireless headphones to enhance film audio. You can also try bringing your own headphones (2.3 or 2.8 Mhz) if you prefer. We also have neckloop technology to connect to your T-coil equipped hearing aids to the headsets.
Neckloop for T-Coil Users
We provide neckloops for those with T-coil technology in their hearing assistance devices. Simply switch your hearing device T-coil on, insert the 3.5 mm jack into our headsets, and adjust volume on headset and neckloop.
Closed Captioning
For those who need or prefer captions, we provide an adjustable  captioning device that sits in your cupholder and makes captions available right at your seat, 365 days a year.*

Audio Description
For those with visual impairments, we stream Audio Description tracks to our headsets when they are encoded with a film. If you aren’t familiar with Audio Description, here is a good resource, including a list of films with AD: American Council for the Blind. Most major releases provide AD tracks.

NOTE: Some of our classic films or one-time screenings may not contain narration. We obtain films with AD whenever possible. Contact us for information about a specific film.*
